About the Festival:
Ciało/Umysł is one of the oldest dance festivals in Poland, a place of many important events, discoveries, international collaborations. It consistently promotes independent world dance art with a special focus on intercultural dialogue, fostering empathy, mutual understanding and respect. Its establishment in 1995 was connected with the need to present the works of the first generation of contemporary dance choreographers in Poland after 1989. Today, the festival is a periodic event that has developed an internationally recognized brand as one of the most important events dedicated to contemporary dance in Poland.
Through the prism of a European country, C/U seeks answers to important moral and ethical questions of today's world. It draws attention to stereotypes created and sustained by the media regarding body image, social positions and age. It reaches out to real human needs, including the context of the search for identity - personal, artistic, social or cultural one. It recalls the history of dance, from which it draws and decodes it anew as well as reinterprets Polish and world dance classics.
An important and distinctive element of the program is to draw on the potential and talent of local residents, involving dance professionals and amateurs in joint activities.
